Archmere Academy Refreshes Theater Wing with Updated Restrooms Featuring Scranton Products® Hiny Hiders®

After 40 years without an update, the performing arts center at Archmere Academy in Claymont, Delaware was due for a refresh. The theater, along with its restrooms and surrounding spaces, was built in 1985 and had served generations of students, faculty, and visitors.
Although it had been well-maintained, the original finishes—including old metal partitions in the restrooms—were starting to feel out of step with the rest of the campus, which had seen more recent upgrades. The space just didn’t reflect the school’s standards anymore.
“Everything in there was original,” said Dan Lutz, Director of Facilities at Archmere Academy. “It looked dated, and we wanted to give it a facelift—something modern and more appealing to match the rest of the school.”
Smart Materials for Schools
The restroom renovation was part of a larger design upgrade led by ABHA Architects. The team completely removed the original restrooms and reconfigured the space to create three new facilities: a men’s room, a women’s room, and a single-user family restroom—each designed to support both student and public use.
ABHA specified Hiny Hiders® partitions from Scranton Products, a trusted solution they’ve used in many K–12 school projects.
“We use Hiny Hiders a lot because we know the product is going to hold up,” said Stephanie Forman, NCIDQ, LEED AP, Designer at ABHA Architects. “It’s durable, high-quality, and looks great. We were aiming for an elevated appearance, even in the restrooms, and these partitions helped us achieve that.”
Made from solid HDPE, Hiny Hiders resist scratches, dents, graffiti, and mildew. They’re also easy to maintain—something both Forman and Lutz saw as critical for long-term performance.
“That was a big part of it,” said Forman. “We kept maintenance in mind throughout the project. These finishes are built to last and easy to clean, which is important for both day-to-day operations and the long-term upkeep of the space.”
The performing arts center serves students during the school day and opens its doors to the public for performances, concerts, and all-school gatherings.
