Once a grand railway station from the 1930s, LIUNA Station in Hamilton, Ontario has been reimagined into one of Canada’s most distinguished venues for weddings, galas, high school proms, and high-profile corporate events. Recently, the venue’s team recognized the need to update a crucial part of the guest experience: the restrooms.

“We host everything from high-end weddings to the Junos and corporate awards dinners,” said Lodovico Rosatone, General Manager at LIUNA Station. “Even if the restrooms aren’t the focus, they’re part of the overall impression. There were no major problems, but they looked tired. We knew it was time for an upgrade.”

The original metal partitions, installed nearly 25 years ago, had become outdated and looked bulky by today’s standards. They were dented and didn’t match the updated feel of the space. LIUNA Station’s leadership sought an upgrade that would elevate the restrooms to match the elegant standards of their ballrooms, keeping in mind the high guest volume that comes with hosting up to 90 events per month.

Providing Privacy at Crowded Events

The renovation at LIUNA Station was transformative. Two restrooms in the Grand Central Ballroom were fully restored with Italian tile, granite countertops, soft lighting, and even in-ceiling speakers to help guests feel at ease. One of the top priorities was updating the partitions, knowing that privacy and security play a big role in guest comfort during busy events.

So far, the partitions have delivered the durability needed to support the high-traffic in the Grand Central Ballroom, which accommodates up to 700 guests.

“We see a wide variety of events—proms, school functions, galas—and we needed partitions that could handle high traffic and lively crowds without showing wear. After a full season, nothing was damaged. That was huge for us.”

The new stalls also helped transform the sense of space in the restrooms. “The old partitions were bulky. These are sleek and modern, and somehow make the room feel bigger,” said Rosatone. “Guests spend more time in the restrooms than you’d think, and now they love how it looks and feels.”

Value was as important as the style and function of the partitions. “We didn’t want to go with cheaper partitions because you get what you pay for. We got great value for what we invested, and we’d absolutely do it again,” said Rosatone.
