There have been many questions that relate to Code Compliance and responsibility for meeting code requirements on Product Installation. All codes can be different based upon municipality and job requirements. Scranton Products has reached out to the Department of Justice for clarification on Code Compliance. The section below illustrates the DOJ stance on code compliance:
SEC.303. New construction and alterations in public accommodations and commercial facilities 42 U.S.C. § 12183 : US Code - Section 12183
(a) Application of term
Except as provided in subsection (b) of this section, as applied to public accommodations and commercial facilities, discrimination for purposes of section 12182(a) of this title includes -(1) a failure to design and construct facilities for first occupancy later than 30 months after July 26, 1990, that are readily accessible to and usable by individuals with disabilities, except where an entity can demonstrate that it is structurally impracticable to meet the requirements of such subsection in accordance with standards set forth or incorporated by reference in regulations issued under this subchapter; and (2) with respect to a facility or part thereof that is altered by, on behalf of, or for the use of an establishment in a manner that affects or could affect the usability of the facility or part thereof, a failure to make alterations in such a manner that, to the maximum extent feasible, the altered portions of the facility are readily accessible.
As a manufacturer of plastic toilet partitions we do not design nor construct facilities in accordance with Section 303 “New construction and alterations in public accommodations and commercial facilities.” Toilet partitions are considered an accessory to the facility, and the example used relative to restrooms was a hand dryer. It is a product applied to a facility, not the design and construction of a facility.
Based on this interpretation and discussions with the DOJ, it is clear that Code Compliance is the Architect/GC responsibility. It is imperative that all Dealers ensure Code Compliance when the review of the Submittal Drawings takes place. Scranton Products cannot be held accountable for changes to approved drawings that do not meet code requirements.

Scranton Products was pleased to introduce a NEW redesigned Tufftec locker design earlier this year. Recently Scranton Products began manufacturing this new improved locker system at no additional cost and it is receiving much acclaim from dealers, installers, architects and end users due to it’s improved functionality, aesthetics and ease of installation. Scranton Products has been producing both the old and the new versions of the Tufftec locker and has made the decision to discontinue production of the previous style Tufftec Locker.
Effective October 15, 2009, all new and existing orders, released for production will be manufactured only in the new Tufftec locker design, the previous design will no longer be available.
The new Tufftec locker maintains all the advantages of our previous design while offering many upgrades and enhancements which were unavailable in the past, like: slam shut spring loaded latch, rigid dovetail constructed box, continuous hinge with nylon bushings and an industry leading 25 year warranty.
Scranton Products is proud to announce our newly designed and re-engineered line of Tufftec 2.0 solid plastic lockers. Tufftec 2.0 lockers are the perfect solution for a variety of applications where durability and aesthetics are critical. Our new industry leading locker design features:
Specify and install Scranton Products Brands with confidence-the most recognized and trusted names in locker systems, bathroom partitions, shower stalls, locker room benches, vanity tops and more.
For more information, see our Tufftec 2.0 lockers page
Scranton Products new Configurator Program is operational and has been used by our estimating department to generate quotes for several weeks. Most toilet stall quotes are now being provided using this new system. Vanities, benches, lockers and special condition orders will still be quoted in the traditional manner. You may notice the quotes generated using this new system have a slightly different numbering sequence than traditional quotes and the quantity of materials ordered is represented by openings instead of the number of stalls and screens. For example, if you request one stall and one urinal screen, the configurator quote will list these as 3 openings. The stall is one opening and the urinal screen is actually two openings, one on each side of the screen. Your requested material will be represented on the shop drawings which are automatically drawn with each quote. The pricing discounts remain unaffected whether a quote is generated on the configurator or in the traditional manner.
The use of this new program will allow us to offer a higher level of service to our customers. Customer training classes are currently being offered on the use of this tool and it’s self service capabilities. For a current schedule of the available class sessions please contact mtachino@scrantonproducts.com
Scranton Products would like to thank all of you for your business and look forward to growing our business together in the future.
